JK47 is right. Blasting sand FTW! Good to be on the west coast, check my 125 gallon thread in my signature if you want to see what he's referring to.
 
i use play sand from home depot,rinsed it really good and did not have a problem with clouding. it is a little fine but i just raised my intake tubes a few inches and haven,t had a problem. My pleco keeps in stirred up and i still don,t have a clouding issue. the quickcrete play sand is the right one not the quickcrete all purpose sand too dirty. if you read the bag it says washed and screened right on the bag.

I just picked some up for my 180 gallon tank and I paid 21.95 for (2) 50 pound bags. Leslie pool sand is awesome!
 
Get any kind of Pool Filter Sand and just dump it in there, You don't even need to wash it but it will take about 2 days to clear up completely.
