I have a Leslies pool supply about 10 minutes down the highway from me. Home Depot is two minutes away, so, I went there first. I was disappointed. Then, Sylvan pools was five minutes away. Again, I was disappointed. They had PFS, but, only one bag left. I needed five. Leslies had all that I needed. This is on the east coast, in Jersey. I got the five 50lb bags for a total of $48.

hey body dub, do you have pics of the lowes sand?

Get any kind of Pool Filter Sand and just dump it in there, You don't even need to wash it but it will take about 2 days to clear up completely.

That's really bad advice. Why would you suggest that? Not rinsing your sand is risking impellers in filters etc.. Why risk it for a half hour worth of effort?

x2!!!

JK47 - you are definitely the "Sand Master"!!! I'm jealous as can be about that sand you've got!!!

i am in jersey also and i could never find white leslies pool filter sand,i bought one bag and it was the same color as the play sand, put it in a 55 gallon and i see no difference between the too, maybe its the time of year you buy it,i will check other pool supplies to see if i can find the white color.

I got some leslie's sand here in Reno and it's the natural color too. The guy said they never get white anymore.

I'm rocking Tahitian Moon now.

I use the quickrete play sand that others have suggested on here and I'm not a big fan of it. Its fine if you don't have big fish who like to stir the hell out of the sand. But in my 150 my oscar like to stir it up and get mouth fulls and spit it everywere. In my 55 my to columbian sharks stir the heck out of the sand and I'm always finding a ton of sand in the filters. Its a really fine sand and doesn't take much to stir it up. I would suggest trying to find a heaver not so fine sand even if you have to pay a little more. I've had to replace a couple HOB filters on my 55 probaly due to to much sand getting in there. I'm prob going to be replacing it with something different here soon.

I am done with any sand made by Quickrete. Never again. :irked: It's pretty and white and an epic PITA, I'm with you it's too fine.. I had one tank left with it but after this weekend I won't. :D

Here is what I just picked up from Leslies, yesterday (it will be enough for 2" on a 265 tall):

That should be plently. I think three would probably do the trick. Four at the most.
