Sand?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Since I've switched over to PFS I'm never going back to gravel again. I thought it was a little too light at first, but I added 20# of Tahatian Moon Sand to the 100# of PFS I had and it toned it down just enough that I really love how it looks now. As for how much you need is up to your preference on how deep of a bed you like but a 50# bag would be a good start, it's a lot easier to add more than to remove some.

when your siphoning it up, how do you make sure you dont siphon the sand...is it clearly visible to notice....or should i just got a loooooong siphon??

im curious about this as well

Alright, thanks! I think I will like the look better too!

As long as you're using a clear siphon tube such as with a python then it's really easy to see if the sand is starting to get sucked up. I also purchased a prefilter called the "ultimate cleaning claw" that attaches to the end of my python to keep from picking up my MTS but it's cut down on how much sand gets disturbed too.

How can I avoid my filter getting messed up?

maybe attach a sponge to the intake and it shouldn't suck sand that easy. i use it and don't have any problems yet. as for cleaning it its easy. use a gravel vac but don't touch the sand with it.
