very impressive

i'm thinking of starting up a peaceful community tank with loaches, synodontis, corydoras and the like. i would like a colony of 1 fish to go with them but how are the leucostica with aggression? would they attack the smaller fish or are they reasonably peaceful?

These are one of the most peaceful cichlids you can have. They do better in groups of at least 5-7 or more and can get big, around 9 inches in aquaria. These fish can have issues if not housed in a big enough environment. What size tank you putting them in? I don't see any issues with the fish you listed.

wow cool tank it make me want a geo tank. :D

Time for an update: The female has been carrying the eggs for the last 5 days and when I woke up this morning, she apparently handed them off to the male for his turn so she can feed. The male, (on the left of the photos) is a little clumsy as I noticed him struggling with some of the bulk. The female is guarding the male and the spawn site now and has kicked the crap out of the other 3 other leucosticas. I think I have 3 males and 2 females total. The Manuas are doing well as well. Female is doing all she can to control not eating while holding her fry. All 11 Rosaline Sharks have been removed and will be transported to their new home tomorrow as they were really causing a stress issue with both parents. Possibly will be moving the leucostica to their own tank for fear that the other leucostica may have a feast. Any thoughts or ideas on this

That is awesome - congrats on what sounds like success so far. I really wish that I had some advice from personal experience with what to advise next, but I do not. My first impulse would be yes, to remove the other leucosticas. As far as the altifrons goes, I guess that would have to be something you would have to play by ear. I am crossing my fingers for you!

i can tell which one the male and female in both pair from the pics. cool. GL
