Also, There is lots of trades like plumbing, electrical, carpentry etc. that won't go to waste, I know here in aus we have some major skill shortages in those occupations..

Why should I support my American neighbor who overcharges me for his services and causes the higher price/reduced quality of the goods I buy? The best thing for the world economy and for individual economies is a free economy as long as we can produce independently our food, utilities, and defense.
For example: If Honda can produce a similar car for a lower price and the same quality, why would I buy from GM? Because my neighbor works at GM? Why not buy the Honda and give my neighbor the difference directly? Why is his labor worth more than the person that built the Honda? Because he is American? No. His labor is not worth more or less for the same output, but he gets paid more than his non-union employee counterpart that works for Honda. I don't advocate "Bringing jobs back to America" if my American neighbor holds me hostage for his paycheck.
