Lake Malawi
There is a biology teacher (irony) in our school who keeps Ten 3-5 inch Jack Dempsey Cichlids cramped in a 10 gallon with about 2 inches of dark brown to black muck in the gravel (visible from outside the tank). There is a dirty small filter on the tank, not enough for even a 10 gallon, and the water is all brown and murky. This tank is in a classroom, with constant traffic and stress for the fish. But hold on, the craziest thing is still to come.....When her fish die (and they do constantly) she buries them in her POTTED PLANTS [for "the plant to be healthy"] and then proceeds to buy new fish. Then the cycle begins again. What's more important, a house plant, or suffering Jack Dempseys?
We want to hear comments on this because we are going to send her a link to this thread. So please keep it a clean discussion.

Tell her how jack dempseys need at least a 55g when they grow up, and that those poor cichlids are leading miserable lives. There are cheaper sources of organic fertilizer available, what kind of biology teacher is this?

Umm. Just to get the point across. I say what she is doing is horrible. She isn't a horrible person but she is doing something that will make fish lovers come steal her tank in the night and re home these fish. She must be stopped. Take action students and destroy the one they call your leader. Take her down in a hole with hot coals and let her melt in pity none. She does not deserve these aquatic beauties! She must be buried under her plant!

TROGDOR!!!! ATTACK!!!!

I would have thought a person with a job in education, especially biology, would have taken the time to educate themselves on the needs and biology of Jack Dempsey's before beginning such an unnecessary cycle of premature deaths.

Honestly I have never found any biology teacher to be smart about any kind of fish period, what she is doing to one of the most beautiful fresh water fish is absolutely horrible, you need to take a plastic bag into her room when she isnt there and liberate those fish.

Um yes, agreed she probably won't care they're gone just take them and put them in a 55gal.Then rehome the ones that won't fit in the tank.
Otherwise, YOUR A VERY BAD LADY :irked::irked::irked:You be nice to living animals

jack dempsey's are a beautiful fish that needs at least a 55 gallon aquarium, for your plants use mineral spikes i garden and keep fish but they never collide unless i am creating a planted aquarium.

She is definitely giving biology a bad name. As an educator you are supposed to give a good example to the younger generation, you ma'am Fail, your fail is epic. I hope this thread makes you come to your senses.

O.P. It's your turn to be the teacher. Educate her on what she should be doing, then give her a chance to change. If she refuses call her out on it.
