I wouldn't go around trying to get her in trouble.

I would calmly explain to her the problems of this, show her pictures of healthy JDs, explain to her how stunted growth does not stop organs from growing and then print out a bunch of papers (sourced) that talk about how this is dangerous for the fish.

You should also suggest her getting smaller fish. I would think a biology teacher would love having guppies or something like that. Tell her that she can return the fish to the store for 25% credit and I would offer to bring her some guppies or something.

Guppies are also a great example of genetics and breeding.

The whole organs keep going myth is just that a myth. It has never been proven.

As far as the other person goes do you think if you complained to your parents they would go to the school and complain to the principle. Maybe get some of the other students to do the same thing I'm sure they would do something then. If you can't get any parents to do it get a bunch of kids from class together and go to the principle and take proof with you.

Even besides aggression and not enough space, the fish probably have nitrate poisoning. It's so preventable. There are so many fish that CAN live comfortably in a 10g.

i managed to get a pic
even though it is blurry, you can tell the bad condition of the tank

well, at least it looks like the plant is growing well.. :( y cant she just stick to guppies, they breed all the time and should live more peacefully and happily in that tank, and would be easier to keep clean, those poor jack dempseys it amazing me that a TEACHER who is supposed to be showing students the correct way to do things, can mistreat these poor fish so blatantly and openly with no shame :(

This makes me very mad!!! My cousin teaches (History) at a high school in L.A. and has about 3 tanks in his class. He has JD's, Green Terrors and Texas cichlids. He keeps them in a 2 50gals and 1 30gal. I make frequent trips on the weekends to help with the upkeep of the fish and tanks. Students also help and love it!

You should offer to do the maintenance on the fish tank.

Maybe she'll give you extra credit. LOL

Plus, she'll see what the tank SHOULD look like and she'll see just how much longer the fish live. Once they start to outgrow the tank, you could find them a new home and then recommend she get smaller community fish for that tank.

Everyone is happy, teacher learns something. And if she's cool, maybe you'll get some extra credit out of it.
