Honestly I have never found any biology teacher to be smart about any kind of fish period, what she is doing to one of the most beautiful fresh water fish is absolutely horrible, you need to take a plastic bag into her room when she isnt there and liberate those fish.

OUCH!!! Careful, there are some of the these not smart biology teachers on this site.

Just show her a proper care sheet. Tons of them are online. Show her a fish book. Educate her without insulting her and you stand a great chance of turning her around. Be nice, teachers hate being corrected by students.

as much as I hate sayign this.. go to your local petco/petsmart.. get a care sheet on jack dempsy's.. or online print one off. and "magically make it appear" on said teachers desk.. if that hint doesn't work.. a more direct approach is desirable.. makeing it Anon in this case may be the best approach. direct confrontation of student/teacher may work, or may end up w/ a teacher who's disgruntled. If the teacher doesn't change things, head to the principle.

What she's doing is animal abuse, and it's teaching kids animal abuse. It's not acceptable. she needs to change her husbandry, or get rid of the tank.

I sent her an email containing advice and information about keeping fish and also specifically for the fish she has.

(she's in my school)

PLEASSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE GIVE ME THE SCHOOL NAME AND ADDRESS SO I CAN DO SOMETHING THROUGH THE WONDER OF EMAIL AND OTHER NET RESOURCES.

I will ask kevin "lazer eyes" bacon to look at her car muahahahhahahah

Personally, in a calm fashion I would show her how and why such is not acceptable. Then I would definitely speak with the principal and get the matter rectified. Ask the principle if he would like to see a water test. I am sure the principal would be very keen to hear of this.

Rather than dog her ! Just tell her to buy gold feeders or rosey minnows. I've heard of that type of fertlizasion but definely not with jack, I have one and it turned out to be the best cichlid I ever had. So please try this other fish.

Wow, that's pretty knarly that she allows that to happen... Is she a young teacher? Just make sure you have an over-whelming amount of information to back you up because, she will question you and try to pass it off as nothing major. Also if that does not work just go to one of the deans, or whoever is next up in the chain of command. Also, as said before, be as nice and polite as possible. Kill'em with kindness. Do not act like a crazed animal activist and get all defensive, IMHO. Could you also take some pictures just so we can see the situation at hand?

If y'all lived closer I would donate one of my extra 55 gallon tanks to her class in a heartbeat. I could write it off to as a donation too.

she's not a young teacher
and i don't really think i can get pics (cell phones aren't allowed to be taken out at our schools)

if the many comments and the info i sent her don't convince her, then maybe i'll go to the dean or something.

screw that. jackdempseys can get on fine in a 40g breeder as a pair lolz
