saved a silver arowana today

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The only way your going to save this aro is to move it to the ten gallon tank and treat the entire tank for ich. I just don't see you keeping is alive in an unfiltered bucket for two weeks. how would you treat the ich? Either heat and salt or meds, can't really do meds if your changing out the water everyday. Heat and salt, you would go through alot of salt with all the water changes, but do-able I guess. Do you have a heater for the bucket?

next time you should make sure you have the correct equipment to save a fish. It was a good intention but its always a rule of thumb to have an extra 10 gallon running. This has saved me many times, and fish. Salt and heat are your is your best bet. Also the ich should not effect your other fish if your water params are good. Just stay on top of water quality and air circulation in the tank.

This would be like if you had been ran over by a car, somebody decides to save you. They take you home and keep you in their garbage can, some save, right?

why do you always gatta be a buzz kill, I think he did a very nice thing, and if he saves its life then whos complaining? it wasnt any better off at the tank at the store so give him some credit. I woulda done the exact same thing

Really? So you think a fish in a bucket is better off then a fish in a filtered tank? :duh: What if the OP took away the fish's chance of going into an experience fish keepers care? How is that better?

If you do make a mistake and post about it on a public forum then you should expect to be criticized.

Yeah we all know how that arapaima ended up. Leave the fish to people who can actually give them proper care.

Sure lets let the arowana die in the ich infested tank instead of atleast giving it some chance of survival in a treated 10g bucket, im surprised even you (someone who really likes silver arowanas) couldn't atleast post an up beat post about this.

Since arapaima are air breathing fish, it needs to go up for air. While I was at school it wedged itself under a peice of slate in my tank and couldnt go up for air so it drowned, at first I didnt believe it but then when I asked the LFS that I bought it from about it they said its happened to them before too.
