Saw this awesome Cichlid today!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Likely the fish you saw was a mix between a midas and red devil, so there is a chance of it getting 15" long.

A 240L is like two 120's added together...8' x 2' footprint. The length is double but the width is the same.

My 120g is 5ft long and 18" wide:D
Sorry just had to add some more useless info

You do realize that would mean spending $200+ on a $10 fish right?

Not suposed to think about that :D
I spent less then 30 bucks on my two silver aros, but spent over 100x that on their tank:nilly:

. . . and that what makes one a monster fishkeeper :grinno:

and getting back to the OP, glad you decided against getting the RD (or RDxMidas, whatever) . . . it's definitely a fish that deserves a lot of room, and 55G would just be too small . . . no worries

I agree.

Well its not a huge loss that I am not getting the RD,it was just fascinating looking. Also I figure he loved me soo much by charging the glass, that he just wanted to give me kisses ;).I am sure when I upgrade to a bigger tank,I will find another cichlid that would be best of pals with my Oscar and JD.

Yeah definitely! There are many species that do well with Oscars and JD... just not RD. :)

 I'm not. The person I quoted had indicated that they didn't think a 75 gallon was suitable for an RD because it "is only wider than a 55". Is it not also true, then, that a 120 is "only" longer than a 240? btw if you aren't already aware, a 120 is 4'x2'x2' and a 240 is 8'x2'x2'.

no. i indicated that it was suitable. i was only saying that it was extreme to say that "a 55 gallon tank for a rd would be like living in a closet" and was implying that a 75 gallon isn't much different than a 55 gallon and is only wider, so saying that having a rd in a 55 gallon would be like living in a closet would be like saying a rd in a 75 gallon is like living in a walk in closet, sure you'll be able to turn around easier, but its still a closet.

the bottom line is that the OP needs to have a 75 gallon if he plans on getting the rd and keeping it when it gets 12+ inches.
