saying goodbye to MFK

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ed sell off your fish and if possible break down your setups and sell them too, then put any money you get into a savings account and leave it alone. When the time is right you will then have some $$ to get things going..

Now for some Fatherly talk , i hve 3 kids ages 21,,18,, 15,,have you tried CALMLY talking with your parents ,stating why you keep fish and what benefits you get from them.also do you know what you want to do career wise? Can fish keeping help in any way?
Just a couple thoughts and I hope things workout between u and your parents..

Look!..Stay home for as long as yo can. Forgive your parent as they have forgotten what its like to be 18. Parents today are under huge amounts of stress like no other time befor.....

first i wana thank you for the fatherly talk i never got from my own father. right now im in my room. and i dont feel like talking to anyone outside my doors. they know very well why i do fish keeping and the benefits. they know and i know for sure what i want to do. fish keeping has nothing to do with my career but it does help me relax when im stressed out, also it keeps me occupied.

Almost 80 posts in an hour and a half is truely a testiment to how much everyone cares about you edwin. If your parents don't have a change of heart, you do not have to completely leave MFK. You do not have to have Monster tanks, or even tanks at all, to be an MFK'er....

:headbang2

It will be hard for you to resist fish but you can still come and talk about them just the same.

Do either of your parents have any hobbys? Possibly you could explain how fishkeeping you're driven to like one of their hobbys?

Also if you don't have room or know of someone to keep your stuff then we I guess you can't keep it. It's nice to do that when you get out of the hobby but can't always do that.

So perfect! you gave me a great laugh Jed :)

keep in touch with the hobby if you love it. even if you don't keep fish and you can't keep tanks, they can't take the hobby or knowledge you have learned and shared to and from MFK away.

So you might try explaining it would be like you telling him he can't do X with semi trucks.. and to your mom it would be like you telling her that's a waste of time/money.. I know parents can be hard to talk to. Might try a well written letter?

What the mess is wrong with you foo? I don't remember seeing it anywhere in the member agreement that you're not allowed to be a member of MFK if you don't have any fish or tanks. Thats pretty retarded. We are not only friends here, we are FAMILY. We might not be blood, but we are pretty dang close.

If your parents have a problem with you keeping and maintaining those friendship, as life is WORTHLESS without friends, then they need to reevaluate their views on life. You would do best to move out as well because noone deserves to stay in that type of situation.

Your parents sound like they care about you though, and probably just want you to make something of yourself, so don't just write them off yet. Be strong, when you can support yourself, if you still want to, then move out. But don't leave MFK, thats not neccessary. ;)

yeah I always wonder wt heck when I hear that.Ppl always say they are leaving the forum, just chill on the hobby for a bit but no reason to leave your online friends.Unless this sites members really put you down in a disrespectful way and its not taken care of then I see no reason to leave.Get just one tank, like a 60 or something and just do something simple yet appealing in it.At least you will have low maint and still have fish but also all the time you need to focus on work and other life stuff.

Yes it doesn't mean you can't still contribute and enjoy the site anymore.

Fishkeeping is not a waste of time because it's life and your here to enjoy it in whatever way and part of that experience for us here is having fish, learning about them, and taking care of them, that's not a waste of time IMO. If we can't indulge in a passtime or hobby why do you have a job and an education so you can have the money to buy fish!
