I use tinfoil barbs and bala sharks, make sure they are grown out a bit.

I've added a shoal of spotted silver dollars.
They seem to be doing well with the ray and the ray ignores them.
Still toying with the idea of adding some peaceful cichlids.
Has anyone had success with uaru and rays?
