Schooling fish suggestions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Bleeding hearts, Black phantoms, Bloodfins, and lemon tetras I think are all great choices.
However my personal favorite schooling fish are the Buenos Aires, but I fear they may be too nippy in that tank.

You could go that route, although I was referring to German Blue Angels. White with black stripes and a hint of blue.
German blue angels are definitely a beautiful Fish, it's actually the only color mutation that I would consider keeping. The reason I want leopoldi is because my dream is to have all three species with there own tank set ups one day. I've already kept and bred wild pterophyllum scalare and the next step would be the leopoldi than moving on to altums.

How does everyone think a school of cardinal tetras and 3 to 4 apistogramma would do with the plecos? I like the rosy barb Idea, would those do well if the tank became heavy planted?

Let's not forget live-bearers like Molly, Platy, Fancy Guppy etc - A planted tank w/ these fish will breed happily and there will be lots of cover for the fry to hide in - also a good choice to keep with Apistos and other Dwarf species

Rosy barbs are amazing. I love my group in a 15 that's lightly planted. They'll look stunning in a well scaped tank

Don't rosy barbs get pretty big....like 4-5"? I think in a 24" tank I would stick to smaller fish such as cardinals, rummies, lemon, etc.
