One day I will try other cichlas. For all of us here. Only a few are interested in what we at mfk are interested in. All suppliers just want peacock bass. They dont care what species it is. They want to pay so much for a fish and thats it. So if I spent lots of money on azul or kelberi to grow up for future breeders, it would be worth it for the hobby, but in the long run baby occels make me more money. I can sell 5000+ occel a week to my suppliers, where as I can only sell the rare species good at first to all of you. After they are avalible for awhile and all of you have them, they will only sell a little. Where as the occel will still be selling strong every week to my suppliers. Most Suppliers are not interested in the expensive cichla, only hobbiest. Thats what makes the rare cichla so special. When something is not avalible it is very valuble. If it was avalible all the time people wouldnt think as much of it, even if it was a nicer fish. Im not saying I cant make alot of money breeding rare cichla, because I could. I am just saying that their is only a handfull of us out their interested in them. There has to be a demand for it. And the demand Im dealing with has a set price. The occels are all I need. If I started breeding kelberi they wouldnt be rare no more and the price would change drasticly on that fish.

I totally agree. You get a person out in the street to walk in a LFS who see's a 2" fish for a couple of hundred bucks and they will think you are crazy....LOL...

It's true most LFS will not care how rare a specie is because they have bills to pay(Overhead). The longer it takes for them to house a fish and care for it's money out the pocket. I would assume that even if you were able to breed Azuls or Kelberi's the demand for many of the rare enthusiest will not be as high because for people who is really into them will already have them. Like Asia the race is to sell VOLUMES at a time and not one or two species at a high price. Wether it's Azul or Kelberi's the invoice will alyways read PBASS..LOL... as selling volumes of 1000's at a time will bring greater profit margins then selling 1 & 2's at a high price...

Again, that pond of yours is amazing...wish i had that in my back yard...

cant wait for that to happen, I will buy lots of them, are they occel? hybrids, or what do you intend to stock and breed with?

i keep playing the lottery so one day i can have an indoor pond that can support such abilities

These are all occel hybrids. I will keep all of you informed. When the babies are up to 2" I will start placing them for sale. Like last year the prices will be very nice.

I am very upset I missed out on this last year, totally my fault for not noticing, but that sounds great in every way. if you started to do other breeds(azul, kelberi, orino) you know that you would have an amazing following here on MFK. I understand your thinking behind sales, but pbass are blowing up more then ever before!

that pond is great thro some temensis in there they would get huge lol when mine out grows my tank you are wellicome to him

ill think about the orinos :)

Snook is the real deal, and all my Cichla sp. "Florida" that I got from him are grade A quality stock. Never a regret with him!!
