Scomb face rub

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So it's been about two weeks since I put my scomb in a bigger tank with plants and he is doing much better thanks for the help. But I did notice last night when I caught him eating the he had lost both of his fangs I assume that it was from the face rub but not sure he is eating and acting fine but will these grow back at some point?

Payaras regularly shed and regrow their teeth. Nothing to be concerned about there. That just means he's healthy and growing. :)

Glad to hear the little guy is doing better. Chix won't steer you wrong.

And not to take away from your thread, but I JUST RECENTLY got my little scomb to eat stuffed silversides. To be honest, I'm pretty sure I'm just tricking him. He will only eat them when they're falling to the bottom, and he usually only eats 1 a night. I think he realizes after the first one that it wasn't alive, and loses interest. Regardless, 1 dead fish a night is better than the 4-5 live ones he was eating before that. And at least I know he's getting some real nutrition out of the fish I stuff.

Payaras shed their teeth every month or so. It just shows that it is growing.

Johnny glade yours is eating dead mine won't well to be honest I haven't tried yet he is still a little small for me to with hold food I just buy 200 rosyreds at a time and feed them good food till I put them in with the scomb I try to keep at least 6 in at all times and even feed those he usually eats on a day. I did try jack Dempsey fry I have but he shows no interest in those and I am not going to try to get him off live till his nose is all healed but don't think it will take too long cause he did look at the home made food I make the one time I put in in before he started rubbing

My scomb took four months I think before he started taking dead food. He was a stubborn cuss. I got him to come around with the fishing method.

It took a month of stress to get my armatus to eat fillets.

My Armatus rarely rubs his now. I guess hes comfortable with everything going on in the house. Almost on a nightly basis now I see him playing in the bubble stream from the air stone. Iv never heard of/seen a payara do this before. Its almost identical to my old RCK playing in the bubbles, do some donuts, let the bubbles carry him to the surface, swim/dart though the bubbles multiple times. I have a theory as to why he does it, but its just that - a theory.
