I think the Sea Shepherds intentions are great but their methods are off. I love that episode of South Park because it does hit the nail on the head. I think the only people on the show that I can stand are the Ady Gil and Bob Barker's captains and the helicopter pilot. I HATE Paul with a passion - he sits in his cabin for like 90% of the show and complains that they aren't getting anything done. I have mixed feelings about what happened to the Ady Gil, it obviously wasn't right for the Japanese to hit it but at the same time you don't get out of your boat cabin and chill out on top of it when there are 4 hostile boats in the water and you are the smallest of them all. They are just lucky that the Bob Barker was as close as it was. Also, who in their right mind would take such a small and fragile boat into such harsh waters?

Ya that boat wasn't even designed for open ocean. But things like that happen when u let a bunch of people who have no real training go out and play battle ship

i dont agree with whaling, but i consider whale wars to be borederline terrorist, they are a bunch of idiots trying to make it seem like they have a cause, but when it all boils down, they just make a nuisance of themselves.

I don't think they do make nuisance of themselves. Without their help some of the whales wouldn't escape. The bigger picture is the world is in a lot of trouble. At some point we are going to be the only things left on the planet. Or what we have left in zoos or tanks. Everything from trophy hunting and puppy mills. We forgot what it was to hunt for only what we eat. We abuse the fact that we have all these wonderful toys.... Once sperm whales are gone. Then what... Once our blue fin tuna is gone.... Imagine the world without these important animals in our lives. These people do the things most are afraid to do. Afraid to how passion about. They go out knowing they might not come back. Yet to give their life to save one or two.... They think worth it. That kind of strength and passion says so much on so many volumes.

No "real training" in what? They do what they do, while perhaps falling short they can do no more without seeking to cause direct hard to other people. Obviously there are experienced deck hands on board. I can't find a link but i have read that some crew members have military background.

Also...beyond whales they do a lot of other projects including dolphins, tuna, and sharks. Notably have a project in columbia with police dogs to control illegal wildlife transport.

And it might be worth mentioning that sea shepherd didn't start when animal planet gave them a show. I don't get why all the threads pop up now, where were the critics years ago?

Yes 99% of them had no training. Most of them are some random geek or tree hugger. I will say there are a few who know what they are doing. After listening to them plan and board a ship at night and sabotage a radar array. All I can say is they are retarded for even considering that. Coming from years of SEAL training I can say they would have probably died.

Who in the crew do you know?

I don't personally know any of them. But seeing there actions none are very professional and are obvisoly have no proper training. There captain got a degree from a community college more than likely and thinks he knows all. They use equipment that isn't designed for there uses than wonder why things don't go right. Example. When here little speed boat got ran over. Wasn't even built for open ocean usage. They don't save any whales unfortunately they might have the first few years. Now they are out there to be on tv. I wish whaling would end but There are better ways. Acting like a bunch of retards playing battle ship isn't the way. Sorry but it's stupid. There tactics are idiotic, and there message is borderline terrorist.

They absolutely are terrorists.

The Japanese are doing absolutely nothing wrong. In fact if you were to actually look into the subject they have not broken any laws. There is a ban on whaling with the exception of scientific collection. Does the whale meat end up on dinner tables? Yup, but that's an addendum to the law, they are not allowed to waste the carcasses.

Now lets look at the pirates on whale wars. They are a small fleet of vessels with no national affiliation in international waters attacking, boarding and actively pursuing Japanese vessels. This makes them pirates.

Another term that applies to them is eco-terrorist. They use extreme action to attempt to reach a goal. For them it is supposed to be stopping whaling but lets be honest, its really just for ratings at this point. They aren't stopping anything. They are backed by a US television station and funded by organizations who have always supported eco-terrorism such as the murder of law abiding civilians as well as the illegal mass murder of thousands of cats and dogs, PETA.

Conservation issues are a huge mess and the only way to actively solve environmental issues is by having management that is backed by government and public sectors. When you support or actively involve yourself in eco-terrorism you blackmark your own cause and make it much less likely that it will ever succeed.

Much worse, people who are on the fringe about environmental issues get an even worse impression of the "moonbat hippies" that they envision when they imagine an environmentalist.

Whale wars is a blight on the environmental conservation movement and does more harm in the long run to the environment than it does good. Those people are not heroes. They are mislead and misguided attention seeking nobodies who don't understand the enormity of their own actions. To support them does nothing more than show your own lack of understanding of environmentalism and the world you live in.

Then where is all this scientific data they are collecting? NOAA data is public. You show me a link to the data they collected.

They maybe a nuisance but comparing them to say Somalia pirates is flagrant stupidity.

Conservation issues are a huge mess and the only way to actively solve environmental issues is by having management that is backed by government and public sectors.
Like the ban on Asian Arowanas (including captive breeding) or the flagrant stupidity of HR669. Yes government has solved these with stunning effect. Yes government regulations is always the best solution.

Note: The government is the public sector, were you trying to say private sector?
