They are crazy and looking for attention....

...but they are on the right side and I hope they prevail. Japan is too crazy with their seafood consumption. They are holding back much of the international fisheries management progress because they simply won't comply. My roommate did his thesis on it.

You guys should rent the movie "SHARK WATER". It came out before Whale Wars. It was about Sea Shepherd stopping the illegal shark finning industry...back before they sold out for ratings.

Although I disagree with your admiration for Watson, I agree Irwin is a great man. Im not argueing that you should change your opinion Im just sharing that facts that give me my opinion. Watson's actions Im sure saved a few whales at first but his tactics are nonexistant. As soon as the whalers realized he was there, they outsmarted him ever since. Simply put Watson is saving very few whales now. Irwin saved an unmeasurable amount of animals now and in the future. The problem with all this "action" over "talk" is that, the human world doesn't work that way. Irwin educated and connected millions of people to animals, so that others shared his respect for nature. Where as Watson attacks people who do not respect nature. Education is a far more effective way of fighting such battles. Just look at the medical field for example, the education of the general population in simple sanitation. Went from people dieing of the cold and simple infections to where we are now. We didn't get that way by exiling sick people and keeping them out of the population. Which would be the equivalent of Watson's actions in this scenario.

Well maybe you are right about Steve being more influential. And I respect your opinion, but I disagree with the part about Watson.

Although I do think that what they're against is wrong, I don't believe that even a single human death is worth saving any amount of whales. Some people may say all life forms have an equal right to live, but given the choice between saving a random stranger or an ant, anyone would choose the person.

I guess free weilly was safer in his tank.....where were those pics taken anyway

Really I don't think that we should force japan to stop whaling...but before the flaming starts hear me out.weather on a international, national, or local scale radical change especially when effects even a small group of people is almost impossible. Instead small changes over time is how it should be handled. Have the decrease Limit the of whales to be killed next yr by 5% than the following year a few more. Gradually over time the number will dwindle and ether be to small for them to waste there time or they kill a few whales. Really 10 dead whales is better than 400. Look at what the gov. Is doing with smoking if you havnt already noticed. They don't out law it all together. But over time make it more and more expensive and slowly decrease the the places that it's alowed. Eventually it will be obsolete, a thing of the past.

Isn't the issue on whale wars that japan does it in a whale sanctuary? They legitimize it by writing "research" on the side of the ship, but the whales are still towed in and processed on the ship.

The issue is double standard. The IWC purposely drew up an area targeting Japan from whaling, while the rest of the world is free to slaughter whales if they wanted to.

It would only be fair if IWC also drew up a sanctuary area surrounding the north pole to prevent Iceland, Norway, and Alaska from killing whales as well.
