Seachem has a new water conditioner that's "better" than Prime

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know this probably isn't the thread to say this in, but I use amquel & buy it in the gallon jugs. It is cheaper, and keeps my lfs trips down. If I could find a gallon size of prime, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Prime does come in 2 liter size. It treats about 20,000 gallons. I just noticed that the other day when visiting a newer lfs in my area.

I have used the alpha before because the lfs was out of prime and recommended this. Basically just like prime but treats more water.

No one in my area carries it, and it is more expensive for them to order it because they are not getting bulk discount.

So, the Alpha smells like sulfur, too? Does the smell dissipate after a while? I wouldn't want or like to use it and have my house smelling like sulfur or a really bad and serious case of obnoxious human methane, when guests come over. I would think it does dissipate so it would not be annoying to anyone. How long does it take for the odor to dissipate or is it one of those situations which is dependant on how large/small one's tank is? (i.e.-larger tank = greater time to dissipate; smaller tank = less time to dissipate)

Does anyone have any knowledge if this Alpha may be mixed with water and held in large pottable water storage tanks for bi-weekly/weekly water changes? Is this something which may also be done with Prime? I am considering the feasibility of doing this, say within the next 6 to 8 months, with 2 - one thousand gallon water storage tanks, for water changes on many aquariums in the upcoming future.

I actually meant "no one in my area carries the larger bottles"

David, it stinks when you first use it but I didn't notice the smell 10 minutes later. It doesn't leave your house smelling like sulfur if that is what you are worried about.
