Seachem has a new water conditioner that's "better" than Prime

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This is not new and its been around for a while, I understand its only for salt.

I have seen it in alot of lfs around me in the salt water section.

I don't mind the smell myself, normally use syringe to add to my tank, so I normally don't even smell it. But I would like to know why randomly I find small black particles in the prime.

There is a whole line of aquavitro stuff all geared twoards SW, I saw the alpha a year ago and thought about trying it out since it is more conentrated. But it's hard to find it online still, prime is easy to find a good deal.

But yeah if yeah can figure out the $/gallon compaired to prime then i would probably go for it.

According to seachem it's the same as prime but treats more http://www.aquavitro.com/Products/alpha.html

Black particles are supposed to be normal. Read that somewhere a while ago.

It's new in the sense that I haven't heard of it before. ;)

I think they are still testing it a bit before they really mass market it as a Prime replacement. I remember reading something in the TFH article about that.

5mLs of Prime treats:
-50 gallons of water
-1 mg/L ammonia
-4 mg/L chloramine
-5 mg/L chlorine

5mLs of Alpha treats:
-75 gallons of water
-4 mg/L ammonia
-6 mg/L chloramine
-16.5 mg/L chlorine

Thus, it looks like they are basing the "50% more active than Prime" on the lowest increase out of those listed, which is chloramine: 6mg/L with Alpha is 50% more than 4mg/L with Prime.
