Black particles are supposed to be normal. Read that somewhere a while ago.

I must admit, I am not that familiar with Prime. I've never used it. I have never heard about it until I became a member. With all of those whom I have read who use prime, it must be the best stuff to get. Can this be purchased in LFS's, or is it something which is an on line purchase only?

You mentioned about the black particles. Are the particles observed before or after mixing the prime in the untreated tank water? What benefit are these particles to the water or is it just an after effect after mixing?

I think this Alpha stuff might be great to use, but I would have to try it myself to be able to endorse it or recommend it to someone else. What's your feelings on this? Anyone?

David,

Prime is available in many fish stores, I've also seen it at petsmart and they might carry it at petco as well. The black dots are seen in some bottles and not others. Here is some info straight from their website:

"Prime®has a very distinct odor that is similar to sulfur which is completely normal. Also, the presence of small black specks is normal."

Here is also a chart they made comparing water conditioners, remember seachem made it so I can't verify it's 100% accurate but it seems like they did their homework:

It really does, and it looks like price is about equal, which seems strange to me considering this is from their premium product line.

I've always found Seachem's prices to be extremely reasonable. Maybe their new manufacturing process for alpha makes it cheaper to produce--I don't know. I think Stability is the best "liquid cycling" product on the market and it is cheaper than a lot of other competing products.

Everyone that said they don't mind the smell of prime should come over here and smell my finger.

Thanks, but I`ll pass.:D

Pretty interesting stuff.
I would have look at this stuff for quite awhile before changing from Prime.
Since all the biological activity is happening in my tank, I have no bio media in any filters, I would need some real convincing before I made any changes.
Still, interesting.

Nice, it would be great if this stuff actually works.

But I think it would take about a year for me to convert from Prime to Alpha.
Very skeptical about this new product.
Until other MFK members [scapegoats ] bought it and confirms that it really works, then ill try it.

I'm waiting for a response from seachem, but if that checks out and since I started the thread I'll volunteer to buy a bottle and start using it when my prime runs out, and report back. :)
