Seachem has a new water conditioner that's "better" than Prime

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i just use a 3 stage HMA filter now no need for tap water conditioners

Ok well you are correct on that, how much room does 5lb of sodium thiosulfate take up?

It's a 55 lb bag, but if you click on the link I posted you'll see that it can also be purchased in a 40lb pail, or even a 1lb container. The math is simple, all one has to do is find out what their local water municipality is using & go from there. As far as Alpha goes until I ran my own tests I wouldn't/couldn't vouch for how effective or cost effective it is for anyone.

So then why all the previous comments? You obviously have no dog in this fight, you don't even use Prime, or any other brand of water conditioner. Is there a full moon in the UK tonight or what?

for years everyone has been going on how great prime is now all of a sudden its not that great and theres better on the market

Boy you're about as sharp as a marble. I read your posts and can't understand what your deal is. Alpha vs Prime is all about cost effeciency. If you can't comprehend that, then why get all worked up?

Getting back to the OP's initial questions, it does strike me as rather odd that Seachem would come out with a product that is essentially the same as Prime, except significantly more concentrated, and market it at a significant amount less than Prime.

IS ALPHA SIMPLY REPACKAGED PRIME™?
No, that’s not what this line is about. alpha™ uses a similar, but different formulation and is 50% more reactive than Prime™ and just as safe. We’ve also managed to reduce Prime's™ signature sulfur odor.

Im interested to see what they come up with for their "premium" planted tank line. I'll eventually get into dosing dry ferts probably but it's just easy now to dose flourish... Same with Safe. Probably the same reason I would consider buying alpha. I'm also a sucker for "premium" stuff, might be lame but I like pretty packaging. Meh...
I always enjoy these lively conversations, and we are lucky as hobbyists to have so many choices available to us. To each their own?

No one has said that Prime isn't a great water conditioner, so unless you can't read it should be rather clear that there are in fact water conditioners (including some made by Seachem) that are far more concentrated, making it far less costly for hobbyists to use.

How difficult is that to understand?

If you would prefer to use Prime because it ain't broke, then by all means that is your prerogative.

I've honestly never seen so much pissing & moaning over someone attempting to help fellow hobbyists save some $$$$.[/QUOTE]

It's RD again the man who likes to cut up peoples quotes to make himself look good what happened to the part of my quote that state you have a sly comment to make about every post I make

Pretty obvious that you come looking for conflict from the get-go. I imagine you are upset because you have no negator to intelligence. I am done before I get into trouble for engaging with emotion.

It's all good, discussions like this one are what forums are all about.
Kudos to clockwork for starting it, epond83 for crunching the numbers, and everyone else that made a positive contribution.
