Compared to just about every single dechlor out there prime is dirt cheap. 1 bottle that can do 5000 gallons only runs $12.99 here. When you consider the costs of the aquarium hobby, I'd say that Prime is just a drop in the Georgia Aquarium.

When adding water directly to the tank, I always dose for the full volume of the tank, and turn off the filters. If you don't you will risk, chlorine/chloramine shock, as well as a possible mini cycle. Prime is already very cheap. If you don't have enough for that, either you have a 500+ gallon tank, or you are in the wrong hobby.

I don't go through enough prime to warrant buying something that big! But then again, half my tanks get RO water...ewurm;988195;988195 said:Pond Prime 2L treats 40,000 gals for $45
ewurm;987999; said:Yes, that is fine. To save even more money, buy Pond Prime instead. The cost is the same but twice as concentrated.
