Hmmm...

6 tanks + 50% wc on each twice a week = you poor bastard :grinno:

And you are a wussy scared of wc:naughty::ROFL::ROFL::ROFL:

17 tanks here 50% / week double weekly here

Now to the op I have to say prime is teh best all around for cost to yeild ratio and the name says it all PRIME

The thread above has a ton of expert advice on the pre treating or treating the whole tank methods :)

I read this thread this morning. It's insane. I feel like a horrible person for not using buckets. I think I'm going to start filling slower...and adding prime in right next to the hose.

I guess using buckets means bigger muscles from all the lifting though!

If you have bigger tanks I would get a 55gal garbage can from lowes and a set of wheels that screw in the bottom of the can.. Costly but if you plan to do the bucket thing it might make life easier.

Just ordered a bunch of Prime from Petmountain.com - they're having a sale on everything and it was cheaper than I could get it, even at 30% off!

:) Im built well. But carrying buckets and having to make the temperature the same on every bucket is unfortunately not part of my cardio routine

As for my water changes being insane. The water from my tap tests 20-30 ppm nitrates. I try to keep it under 40 and I am usually successful at doing so. But I also understock and overfilter monster style. (10 African cichlids in a 90 and I am done lol )

The issue with Prime is that the detoxified ammonia will "revert" back to toxic ammonia after about 24 hrs so you must continue to use it.

With Amquel+ this does not occur and any left in the tank will continue to detoxify the ammonia.

This is the first I've heard about this. Can anyone confirm?

I actually made the switch to Prime a few months ago. I have no complaints.

lol prime since 99 !

And yes it only locks up ammonia for 24 hours or so it does not remove it. Same as it does for nitrates and nitrites it says it locks them up temporarily and allows the bio filter to "More easily" get rid of them.

It would be cool if it worked indefinitely though :)

You also need to look at how much water each treats when comparing prices.

Precisely. I was a devoted Amquel user for several years. With bigger tanks and the volume of water that must be changed each week, Amquel is simply not cost-effective. I've been using Prime for about two years and couldn't be happier.
