Seachem purigen

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
purigen is real good stuff everyone i always recommend it to people.

Unless you need allot the 100ml bag already comes in a bag like Aquaclear media. Yeah the stuff is very fine, looks like mush when its wet. The good thing is it dosn't take much the 100ml bag is like a small pouch of Biomax maybe a little smaller fits perfect in Aquaclear 70,100, I put two in in my 406 fits perfect on each side. Do read the website there are some chemicals that can ruin it if you add to you water I think one of those is Stresscoat.

Great stuff. Very clear water and noticeably reduces nitrates. If you have a high bioload it will wear out pretty quick though. If its not removed and recharged it turns pink and nitrates seem to slowly creep until the purigen is removed. I took it out and have not put it back in yet due to the frequency in which I would have to recharge the little pellets. I believe I was using over 500ml of media.

+1 I must try some of this stuff

it works but honestly cleaning filter pads work 100x better, i spent months trying to achieve clear water and even planning an elaborate mechanical filteration setup. one day i tried changing the filter pads every day as opposed to once a week and it was clear, like really clear. now i change it every other day and enjoy my tank :)

This is my secret weapon along with a UV sterilizer for all Aquarium services we do! I love the stuff! It's a great product it's almost on the idea of a protein skimmer in a bag. because it's so fine you need to pick up seachems "The Bag" Makes water crystal clear

Now that it's no longer a secret, I am going to purchase some.

After two days it's already starting to turn brown and there's been a very slight improvement in water clarity.

I'm going to give it more time, but I'm thinking Chaidan is right...nothing will replace the benefits of regular water changes.
