Seachem: Stability

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
On a side note. I know how to read a label and follow instruction. I also am not a rookie fishkeeper but i am still learning after 10 years

I didn't say you couldn't, but you'd be surprised how many people don't know how too. It's good that you got your tank cycled. I'm sure your fish are happy.

Those who claim that Stability do not work are either

1. Got a spoiled bottle
2. Not using it properly (Just add into an empty tank and expect a miracle)
3. Lying

The trick with Seachem Stability is to take a firm grip on the neck of the bottle, then shake it like you would a blood parrot breeder... Until your numb or they agree to quit.. ;)

Here's how I feel about it: Use what works! If something worked for you this time, great. It's just that instance is a one time thing under questionable circumstances because you were doing water changes and had some seeded media, etc. Try a couple more tanks from scratch and report back. I'm always interested in something new.
It wouldn't surprise me at all if another product worked as well as stability. It's just that Stability has proven itself many times over to myself and other MFKers, so it's popular on here. That definitely doesn't mean there aren't other products out there that work just as well! Just do the tests and prove it, so we can all learn something.
There ARE other factors that can affect your cycling time, namely ph and kh, even with stability. It might just take longer. There's all kinds of things going on at a chemical level I'm sure no one on here fully understands or could even begin to know without some heavy duty lab equipment. It's a lot more chemically complicated than ammonia->nitrite->nitrate when you get down to it.

It just so happens that i have a 220g to cycle in the next week or so. I will be able to try my chinese knock off from day 1 and i will post my results then. At that point i will know for sure if that stuff works as well as i think it does.

Cheers have a great day everyone
