Are rays immune to the poison that is found on stingers?
The stinger doesn't carry the poison. It is the sheath around the stinger which houses the poison. By this time
the sheath has usually decade off. But in answer to you question it is only deadly if it penetrates something vital.

Then why does everyone say be careful touching them when they are shed?

Because if you grip it hard enough theoretically you could puncture your skin and voila.

But realistically you'd haveta be pretty dumb to sting yourself with a shed stinger.

Well, the ray punctured itself with the shed stinger, that's why I asked.

never mind the barb you picked this ray up by the tai didn't you. if so you are my hero!

I use a thick chemical resistant glove just for piece of mind and throw a wet wash cloth over the tail and grab just before the stinger on the tail. On both rays I pulled out through the bottom or back out opposite of the way it went in. The reason being is the barb is tapered so if you can visualize this, if you pull it the rest of the way through you are making the wound larger. You will cause some damage by pulling it out the bottom but far less damage than taking it all the way through. Just checked and he is cruising the bottom like nothing is wrong.

wow crazy......thats what i was thinking if you pulled through all the way it would make the wound bigger crazy bro im glad hes ok

u think alot of little peices of the barb broke off while u were pulling it out?

thats wht i fear if i ever get stung, is all the little peices they would have to dig out of me
