i went back to college last sunday, the 6th, and my mom called me monday night and told me my oscar has a big scratch on it. i was like ok my mom is just over reacting but when i showed up that friday this is what i saw

does any one know what could have happened this oscar is 11'' and is due to lay eggs in the next couple of weeks. the gash is 5''x1''x1/4'' deep

I'm not sure what could have caused it, but this is a nightmare for a community tank IMHO...I'd try and quarantine that fish until you can get some healing action in place...you'll have to keep the water SUPER clean to avoid infections...It's odd it's on both sides of the fish?
