Senegals - WC vs CB!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Dimilin won't work. Will likely need to use salt.

Any other meds available?

The following meds are available in SA which is what i told Hendre Hendre on the other forum

Panacure bs, often used by discus keepers
Composition: Fenbendazole 5% m/v
Disadvantage... makes your water cloudy as it is a white solution

Prazinquatel: Available as Biltricide in tablet form however, you need a script from a doctor or vet unless your pharmacist knows you well and knows you have fish, then he might sell you 3 or 4 tablets

Levamisol HCI is also available i believe for loaches its 2 mg per liter
Available at some chemists, vet and ko-operatives

Hope this helps

Metronidazole is available from vet and chemists under the name Flagyl, again you will need a script from doctor unless pharmacist is sure its for your fish

The Paraguard we have available is the one from Seachem

There you go Hendre Hendre !

Would the seachem paraguard work??

Thanks a million MariaS MariaS !

Would the seachem paraguard work??

Thanks a million MariaS MariaS !

It's a pleasure
Seachem Paraguard does treat parasites but Im not sure if its effective against the particular worms you need to treat. It does contain malachite green.... so maybe..
Maybe someone else can chime in there

Kanplex does not treat parasites but Metroplex does, the active ingredient is Metronidazole
You could get it from the same LFS that you got the Kanaplex

Polyaddict86 Polyaddict86 , we dont have the variety of products that you have overseas but we have a fair amount just often under other names.
Problem is you have to be careful and do some homework when treating scaleless or sensitive fish.
Once you know what active ingredients are safe, then you can search what's available that contains those ingredients.
I had to do it as a precutionary measure when i got my rays so that if i ever needed i knew what to get. Memebrs on the ray forum helped me with that and then i searched locally.

The Pharmacies, if you have a regular Pharmacy that you get all your meds from, are usually very helpfull andif you give them facts, how many litres, how many days etc.. and they know you genuine, they will always help when you need
A strange Pharmacy will obviously be a bit reluctant

Will a clicks or dischem have it?
I'll phone about metroplex.

Does anyone think these meds will effect a syno catfish badly?

Thanks a million! I though it was residue on the glass...
Ha ha.
Never heard a fish keeper blaming missing a disease on residue on the glass
Classic

MariaS,
Why suggest metro for treating external worms?
Metro is a type of anti-biotic. Bacterial infection, flagellates, microbes.
Doubt it will work on the worms?
