Do native fish, even more specifically you could try Arizona natives but that would limit yourself a bit. It makes perfect sense. Your teacher has ties with fish and game so you can probably get them legally. Students would get to see the behavior of fishes from their own backyard or fish they are familer with from fishing. It would also be a heck of a lot cheaper than something like rays.

my tank is roughly about 135 gallons and its 50 inches long and like 18 inches wide

must be really tall since a 75 is 48x18x21

i like the native idea.
all im saying is that they are giving me like 500-600 dollars for fish.
i mean i couuld always return the change.
but who does that?
i want to blow all of it on some cool fish.

haha.
idk.
its still way too far to project on an idea like this.

You need a bowfin for sure.

I'd go with an African setup. Large African tanks are always active. If you limit yourself to one of each species you put in the tank you can end up with some cool hybrids. My Red Zebra and my Cobalt Blue Zebra made some awesome looking fry. 4 of them made it to adult size.
