severums

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Same thing happened with my sev's when they were under 5 inches, the bigger one kept nipping and charging at the smaller one but now they can't leave each other's side, they swim everywhere together lol I also have a 2 inch gold sev in the tank and they are all getting along and they are all male's

how big are your's and when did you get them? i heard if you add two in at the same time as babies and they grow up with each other it will help with aggression.

I don't know about the FM mine do the same thing, flare their gill's but that is it lol

btw your severum's are beautiful.

I added the smaller as a baby as the first few fish in my tank along with the blood parrots that I have. Then I got the redhead and it was already larger while he was more dominant, it wasnt like this. they used to ignore eachother more, now all my fish have been hangin out in one corner of the 55...so i got another plant hoping to provide more shelter to the ones who are left in there. i am thinking the larger is around 4.5 or something and the smaller is like, 4 or so. but i am terrible at estimating how big my fish are lol.

so the redhead severum became more dominate as of late? so now the littler one is even worse off, i would take out the red head and put it in your 29 gal for a time so the other can heal because it is going to be real nice looking and how about the flowerhorn, isn't it the dominate fish?

it is pretty dominate, but the flowerhorn is just a chaser right now, thats not to say it hasnt helped in the process of beating up the fish, just right now its not the bad guy

Well, I moved both of the severums today. I have been checking on them tons, and watching. So far, they have been very good with not beating eachother up. Had/having water temp issues, just trying to get that fixed...hmm, will be continuing to watch them closely but there is a decoration and a couple plants in the 20 with them, so they have room...and spaces to hide. My bf said they are closer to 4 inches for the larger and 3 or 3.5 for the smaller.. see... I know I have poor "estimating the size of fish" skills.... lol

I always knew about severums but never got them, i always leaned toward the real agressives (red devils, midas, managuense, bifasciatum, cuban) Then i started up the hobby again and my friend brought over some severums and it was like a paradigm shift, now i only want mild mannered cichlids and severums are at the top of my list.

for an update... I have both of the severums in the 20 gallon still, and they seem to be doing fine with agression...... the smaller one bites me every time I have my hand in there trying to fix the temp...naughty lil thing lol. But now the redhead has a spot on its nose....idk if it got burned on the heater (that they like to sit underneeth) or if it scratched it or if the smaller one bit it... i will post a pic as well. Also, my smaller one seems to have a bit of a cloudy part on his eye... what could this be from? The amonia and nitrites are fine, just checked them a couple hours ago. In the second picture, the one with the problem nose is on the right.
