  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I know but I felt like the discussion was kind of deviating so I plan to open an updating thread In a week or two and maybe more people can give their thoughts didn't mean for it to come off as rude or anything.

For now it's just a thought, but I was considering trying to get a female dovii to mate with my male jag because I'd like to see how the offspring developed. It's not something I'll attempt without a lot more research and advise because I wouldn't want any harm to come to either fish. I know others have had that combination occur and produce viable fry. I've just never seen what they develop into as adults. I believe someone called that hybrid a Jagovii.
here's my jagxdovii. mother was dovii and father a jag. this is kind of an old pic but her markings are darker now and she's about 12.5 inches

1. To steer us back; all look like females.
2. $40 each? I'm sorry, but that's what you should have paid, max, for all 3.

If you want a known male, then get rid of these - take the loss, and buy a sexed male, and enjoy.

Believe me I now know after reading these posts that $40 each was way too much. This was not the problem.the reason for buying these dovii was to get a male so money was not the issue . The reason I bought them off of this guy is because they are F1 and he had the f0 parents in his tank and they looked amazing so I bought them. There Is no where in Southern California that can sell me a confirmed male and no one that will even think of shipping here. I've emailed Jeff rapps store or what ever a week ago no response so I figured this was my best bet so I did it. Yes I screwed up am I mad about the money? No am I mad about finding out they are all female? Kinda but there were still some people that said too small to sec so who am I to believe ? I do realize now that the only one at fault is me and because I am a 17 year old dovii newb and I didn't know much about dovii other than they were big cichlids, mean, protective , and responsive and also it's impossible to get a confirmed male in so cal. So yes I made a mistake and yes I am owning up to it it know what I did wrong I know what to look for next time and I learned from my mistake that is what life is about and I understand. Sorry if I've been a total in convenience but I had to start this thread because I was so insure with these dovii . For now I will grow out the females a little than get rid of them and if I can't find a male I may just buy red terrors or something Thank you all for your help and support

don't be so hard on yourself and don't give up hope yet on what you have. In 2-3 months those dovii you bought should gain close to 2" with good water conditions and food and will be much easier to sex once they've grown to 5" -7" the bigger they get the more they will be worth when you go to resell. If it doesn't work out and none of them are male keep searching if those are your dream fish. There are vendors online that will ship to you and you might even be able to aquire a wild caught male. The only problem I can choose with getting a fish speed is their minimum order policy which is usually $100 or more and unless they have a larger male a single fish isn't going to cost that much. I'm sure they would be willing to negotiate though.
