Im saying about 90% chance its a male......Females usually have blue patches on their gill plates.....your doesnt appear to have patches and yours appears to have a pointed dorsal fin, which is yet another sign of a male.....DONT put it in with your EBJD cause they will not end well!!!!!!!

I agree 100% with this. However plenty of females have pointed dorsal fins. I would say without a doubt yours is male.

LOL. Good comparison. The OP's fish looks nothing like your male - far more blue on the gills.

And yes females get a lot more colourful than the OP's young one - nearly as colourful as males.

I would say male due to the long and pointed dorsal fin. Looks a little young but the juvenile barring is beginning to go away. Male IMO.

looks maleish, and crazy cichlid dont give false info plz, pointed fins or rounded fins dont meaan anything, i have a female 2.5 inche convict with pointed fins so long she makes her dads (rip) fins look crappy, and i have few other female pink cons with long pointy fins, so they only accurate way to sex a dempsey is by the beard, blue blochy beard is female no blue blochy beard is male

forgot to say i have a male with rounded fins and a few other males with pointy fins so goin by fin extinchin ( cant spell ) is not always accurate
