Eggs should be a cream color. If they're white, male didn't do his thang! How long has it been since she's laid?
24 hours now & she just ate them in the past few hours.

She also killed one of the other sub-adults too....I found it dead in the breeder net tonight, nothing more than torn fins, not even a missing scale.....looked like TOD was merely hours before I found her, no decomposition less than 24 hours since saw it was fine last night at this time.

The other "dominant" one I put in a 2nd breeder net ...the "good" kind has escaped it also - both fish escaped both nets but I could keep a EB Acara in it for a month?

Are some fish just too stupid to find a way out of the breeder nets?

Eggs certainly weren't white, but they weren't cream either.....

well, apparently I had a pair all along , 3rd time is a charm. Just checked the tank and it's full of wigglers. Didn't even notice any eggs .....now where to move the 3rd-Wheel to.....

I correct myself.....tank is full of free swimmers??? How is that possible....I just saw a clutch of eggs get eaten Tuesday night......wth??

IME and IMO, jewels are very easy to sex reliably, even at a young age and size. Male and female have different body shape. Females "roundish" and males, the belly and top are straight forming parallel lines. Plus males usually have a slanted forehead; older males sometimes nuachal hump, though not so common.
But it can be very difficult to sex them from pictures; depends on the angle of the shot. Has to be dead straight on to reveal the true body shape.

had to move last month's babies tonight, came downstairs tonight and saw a new nest and a female in the process of laying while there were still 100+ fry in there, so I moved them cuz I figured the parents would eat their last clutch to make room for the new one. Am I right?

First fish I ever bred actually when I was about 12. I found it fairly easy to sex fully grown ones. Males are slender and they have a steper head profile, and they get very red jaws, but then a terracotta color on the rest of their body.
Females seemed to have more jewels, a shorter rounded physique and they were red all over.
I have 3 juvies right now and From what I can see one of them has red around the jaw so probably a male and 2 females. They are all pretty chummy right now but thats just my individual way of telling, its not 100% but I hope it helps.

Got any pictures?

Yea, I can see most of that....never checked for red jaws though....i'll get pix of my whole collection up here one of these days soon. Only got a few sub-adults and some Morays picture-worthy ATM. You can't even SEE the baby HRP-Convicts and Jewels in the fry tank, still only 1/4"
