State of chaos
i have a silver low-profile baitcaster by shakespear.
piece of crap.
cant cast less that 3 oz, not great drag, hood cracked after 2 days of use.
it casts like a deep-sea baitcaster, built for deepwater jigging and trolling. it cant cast light tackle lures like the lpbc on tv or anything:irked:
plus, the bar that you depress to freespool does not snap back into place when you reel, you need to reel one turn, push it up halfway, then reel another turn and push the bar up the rest of the way.
unless you need a sturdy reel for deep jigging, trolling, or casting heavy lures/baits, dont even look at them:irked::irked:

really if you want light weight lures you should go with spinning also bait casters arnt ment to cast that far mainly large lures and jigs. Also cmon what did you expect from a $36 walmart reel.

i do use spinning but i also like the feel of baitcasters. i know there are some out there that can throw a cd7 rapala but this aint one of em.

goes to show you get what you pay for... If you want a good baitcaster for all applications jigging worming topwater spinner baits etc. look into the diawa revo SX or the shimano Cuardo E or Citica

remember, baitcast are for stuff such as crankbaits and large jerk baits, swimbaits, jigs etc...

if you want something light, go with spinning...

just because you like the feel doesnt mean its ethical.

what are you talking about REVO SX is made by abu garcia. now as far as iam concernded stay away from shakespear all together. the only alright thing they make is ugly stick light, and there fishing line. normal ugly sticks are what i call broom stick rods stiff and unsesative, there junk

Thsi makes me feel old but are you tunning your reel for these bait weights. Alot of people think they can just switch back and forth from different baits all day and never touch there reel. The correct way to set your reel for the weight of lure you are wanting to use is to attach the lure. And then hold the rod up at a 45degree angle or so and push the button or press the thumb bar. And allow the bait to drop to the ground with out touching the spool. When the bait hits the ground, if the reel back lashes then tighten the bearing cap under the handle a little at a time until ti does not back lash. If when you click the reel the bait does not drop very fast then loosen the bearing cap unitl the reel back lashes and retighten a little. By properly tunning your reel to your lure you will get the best performance out of it. --------------------------------------i would put my 5500c3 abu garcia up against any spinning reel on the market the same size. As long as the spinner holds about the same amount of line (aka size of reel) i can throw the same weight bait it can the same distance if not farther. I only use bait casters. I used my abu t5600c thumb bar with a slip crappie float and 1/8th sinker allday on my last outing. never a problem and threw just as far as all the people i fish with that brought spinning tackle.

don't know about you guys, but...as for shakespeare, their spinning reels does okay. If you know where to look for it, their spinning reels are superb!

A for rods, they are okay...but ugly sticks all way. To me, they are a lot more sensitive than other rods, they are build for handling more than what most rods aren't capable of. To me, the strength of the rod matters more than sensitivity :)

Ugly Custom, Ugly Lite Pro, Ugly Lite, Ugly Lite Pro Graphite, Ugly Lite Graphite, Ugly Classic, Ugly Tiger, Ugly Big Water, and the rarest ugly stick to find now a days...UGLY BLACK TIGER! :D

They'll never break on you going after your dream fish, I remember catching a 65" white sturgeon with a 7ft ugly stick classic 6-15lbs line test...It has the back bone to handle it perfectly(if the place your fishing doesn't hold too much structure)

But back to the topic with the shakespeare reels, if you want reels from shakespeare. Get spinnings, not baitcast. If I was to choose baitcast, low profile = Revo Toro
Round Bait Cast = Shimano Calcutta/Ambassedeur C4 6500(make sure it has carbon drag or else don't get smoke!!! LOL) :D
