In a futile atempt to get this thread back on track:

Does anybody from the general "non-fishkeeping public" even read those little petsmart info tags before buying a fish?

I use to along time ago....didn't really need to worry about it any way though. If the fish started to look to big for the tank my mom would of asked around and we would have probaly gotten a new tank.

Reading a tag or buying a fish to a non-fish keeper is like buying dog food or reading the label, and not having a dog.
A futile attempt indeed.

You have truly confused yourself. BEFORE BUYING A FISH I am sure they look at the tag to find out the price, but does any other info really concern them.

People should research a pet before buying whether it's a dog, cat, monkey, bird or....yes FISH. Yes the employee should know how big the fish really gets and inform the customer but they're not an institute of higher learning for fish and don't have time to teach each and every customer about every single fish they ask about. So it's really 50/50 they lfs person should know they correct info on fish that get large and warn them but customers should know too on their own by researching before buying any pet.
:D :D Guess you finished the popcorn.  ;) :clap :p

To a non fishkeeper or novice all the fish look the same...tiny and cute. They don't grasp the concept of how large that tiny little fishy in the Petsmart tank is going to get. Live and learn is how they figure it out.

We here at MFK don't need a chat room, we'll just have a daily "Why Petsmart...... " thread. Theres 11 or 12 ppeople currently veiwing this Master.P.O.S.

I don't think I'm confused at all on this point. Most "non-fish keepers" buy fish on impulse because they are cheap (relative to most other "pets")
If they don't like it or get tired of it, they simply throw it in the trash after it dies from their ignorance. Not so with other, more "responsible" (and expensive) animals such as reptiles, dogs, cats, etc.

I do read those lil pet tags. I like reading all aspects and views on fish, their habitat, and abilities, regardless of who is posting the information.
Besides, I hope the average person would take all obtained information and make their own educated decision as to whether the fish will fit their available accommodations. Who am I kidding? We're F%$k'd as a society.

No, no one is going to read tiny little letters. Until you point it out to them.

Lets face it, chain stores suck. These threads are exhausting.
