To a non fishkeeper or novice all the fish look the same...tiny and cute. They don't grasp the concept of how large that tiny little fishy in the Petsmart tank is going to get. Live and learn is how they figure it out.

I don't think I'm confused at all on this point. Most "non-fish keepers" buy fish on impulse because they are cheap (relative to most other "pets")
If they don't like it or get tired of it, they simply throw it in the trash after it dies from their ignorance. Not so with other, more "responsible" (and expensive) animals such as reptiles, dogs, cats, etc.

Exactly, so the info that Petsmart puts on the little info tags is in reality, irrevelent. If the where to print that oscars need a 100g tank or bigger, would this deter anyone from buying an oscar?

No, because a fish keeper would/should already know. A non-keeper probably does not care in the first place.

In fact I bet ifthe where able to get a tiger grouper this is what the card would read

is a schooling fish and does best in groups, it is also a live bearer.

They continue to make money and be profitable, so why would they change.
It's about the dollar, not the animal.
The animals are just bait for the public to come in the store as far as they care.

The higher managment wants it this way, they don't make the money off the fish sales. The money is in the tank, decor, food, medications. If the fish gets too big, then they luckout and sell ya a bigger tank, more food etc.

If the fish should die they'll just sell ya more fish. As long as they are selling nothing will change.

That's a horse? that poor thing has been beaten to where it is no longer recongisable.

Now thwt we have cover all aspects of the "petsmart" tag this thread should become a sticky and all future PS threads can be refered to it.
