I have an interesting story -- about 8 months ago I walked into my LFS and noticed they were selling about 20 EBJD's. All sold out quickly but one lonesome guy who had almost no blue on him and had some serious BIG eyes. To make space they moved the poor fellow to a tank full of mini puffers!! The EBJD was in there for at least a week -- needless to say, the puffers were relentless in trying to nip the poor EBJD's fins -- I'm surprised it survived that long --- the poor EBJD had lost most of its fins to the puffers ---
the following day I took my wife to the LFS -- she saw the poor EBJD fighting off the puffers -- looked like he was on his last tank of gas.....what surprised us was its will to survive ---- so the wifey saids "BUY IT" -- "I want it to die in piece, the poor thing". So here I am buying what I thought was a sure goner....put him in my planted 6 gallon tank and here are pictures of him 2 months later....as you can see all of its fins have grown back and he is growing into his eyes.....he is now 5+ inches in his own 30 gallon (long) tank...he is a joy.....gets excited like an Oscar fish during feeding time.....I will post current pictures when I get the chance.....Taught me a lesson -- PERSONALITY in a fish wins over looks, rarity, and anything else you can think of!

heres my jd, the light was on and i do not have black gravel, but he is about a year and maybe 7 inches now.. i saved him from a friend of mine that was going off to college, was the first fish in my 125 and is still kickin it, causes problems when i do water changes with my smaller fish but never with anyone bigger.. I love him, especially when the lights out and he is darker

I just bought a 3'' male JD w/ pop eye and after week w/ melafix, he is looking good. He is growing pretty quickly and isn't shy at all. He is now growing out in a 72g w/ a 8'' a. robertsoni, 7'' t. ellioti and a 4'' h. deppi. None of the other fish bother him at all. It is funny when he flairs his gills at the large robertsoni. I love this little guy!

Nice JD's all! Mine is about 9", and he was actually a rescue. A buddy of mine in college had him in a 29 gal with another JD, the other JD died and he didn't want him. So I put him in my 55... with 4 small turtles (all in the 2"-3" SCL range at that time). It took them all about 2 hours to establish a new pecking order, and the JD was definitely at the top. The JD is very outgoing and not scared of anything, and he still runs the show 5 years later (the community is now in a 125 gal, soon to be in something even larger). Anyway, here's the pic I have access to at work (spot in the middle is from the flash or something):

I have just added a red oscar to my chocolate tank. the red oscar is a juvie and the chocolate is about 8 inches. was hoping they will got on well

JD's are so hardy... My little brother had dumped a HUGE container of fish food into a ten gallon tank with a JD and didn't tell anyone.... I found it on its side later that night and i took it out cleaned the tank and put straight tap water in and the JD was up swimming like nothing in less than 5 minutes..
