Sounds like the OP spoke with Jeff and got a shipping quote...which the OP didn't like.

Cross-country next day air shipping is expensive. And water is heavy.

Matt

Yea, I saw.

I guess I was basically saying if that sounds high, tell Jeff, not random people. Jeff (and every other vendor Ive dealt with on here) will explain it to him and clear/ answer any questions about why it is that way...thats all. We all know what happens once grumpy competitors gets on here and start flaming/ bad mouthing etc. Plus this isnt anything that couldnt have been discussed in the OPs first Jeff Rapps thread.

It does seem that shipping from the Northeast is double that of shipping from the Southeast.

Couldn't agree more.

I'm sensitive to this topic after being stiffed on the difference between the estimated shipping and the actual by someone who bought fish from me and agreed to pay actual shipping.

I don't see anything wrong with asking other's opinion on whether something is fair or not. He didn't come on here bashing anyone....he just said it seemed high. I believe his intentions were good, but he was trying to find out if he was getting the shaft.

I hear Jeff has the products and customer service to back up the high shipping prices. I have 3 WC G. Abalios that originated from Jeff and they are pretty high quality specimens. I'd try it out and see if you think the shipping and stuff is worth the excellent fish you receive.

Other than (nominal) costs for packing / boxes, Jeff doesn't set his shipping prices. They're set by UPS, FedEx or USPS.

Although I agree that Jeff has good products and services, he's not charging "high" shipping prices. The shipping companies are.

I live in California, and have purchased fish from New York... Florida... and other points East. I've never paid anywhere near what you've been quoted. Rapps isn't just high, he's obscenely high. I realize that he has nice, wild fish... but like most businessmen that develop a solid reputation... he trades on that a bit.

If you are willing to pay... then I suppose that is good business on his part, but he prices a lot of people right out of using his services.

Having ordered from Jeff many times, he provides the ACTUAL shipping costs with your bill.

You know, the ACTUAL shipping costs set by FedEx, UPS, etc. Not Jeff.

By the way, how do you know if the rates are high, low or whatever based on the OP's posts?

Are you his PR man or something? :screwy: Chill out and quit acting like everyone is attacking JR. No one is. His shipping is higher than any other place I have gotten a quote from.....That's why I said "HIGH" as you quoted. I understand that he takes more care in shipping than most, so thats why I said his PRODUCTS AND SERVICES are worth the "HIGH" shipping.

I spoken with a number of people who have used him over the years... I've been in the hobby awhile. ...and I've explored using him, even though I've always heard the same thing. He charges more than anyone.

If you are comfortable with that... great.

Some folks are not.

I'm not his PR man. Just a happy customer.

I understand the difference between the prices that he controls (fish, heat packs, box) and the prices he does not (shipping).

If you think that there's a grande conspiracy to rip you off on shipping costs, why don't you go to the shipping company's website and verify the actual cost of the shipping?

Matt

I've had conversations with several vendors and I believe that they, for the most part, feel just as bad about the hight shipping rates. One vendor has confessed that he has lost many sales because of it.
I've bought fish from Jeff for many years now and I can attest to the fact that his packing is first rate. I'm lucky because I only live one state over from Jeff. Next day shipping for me is pretty cheap, $20.00 or so, depending on what I order.
