Shipping Disaster

My one and only time shipping fish (not sure if last) was USPS. They could only tell me it went to the dead letter office. I guess they should have said the dead fish office. Seller gave me credit, which I have not used yet. It was an Aquabid deal. I got 8 4" Dats for $130, AND NOTHING...... Oh well.

That sucks if your lucky they will be still alive, but same thing happened to me, ordered through USPS and 3 days passed by asked seller if he shipped the fish he said yeah I started to worry a little then the weekend came so I checked the tracking number it said could not find address (found out a new mailman that was doing my route.) so I went to the office and asked she said there is nothing she can do fish had already left the facility to be sent back to seller she said she can leave a message on the order person looking for fish LOL anyways Sunday came I had no hope of the fish coming back alive so replaced order with seller cool guy he sent me a new order didn't pay for a new order of fish and paid overnight shipping was worth it but then I received the package from USPS ( 11 days later )
I guess she really put the note,I was just gonna throw it away because I didn't want to see a bunch of dead fish but decided to open it,all the fish were still alive so that was a lesson learned next time I go with USPS I learned that 2-3 day shipping can mean 11 day shipping.

Because they are in a dark box, fish are basically asleep the entire time, and their metabolism is slowed down, and you "may" get lucky, especially if the shipper used oxygen.
Cooler temps may also help.
If you paid the shipping, you should get your shipping fee back from the PO, alive or dead.
I always have the shipper write my phone number on the box itself, just in case the label with address is somehow lost. And that has happened, and I received a call.
I always use 24 hour shipping or less, just to be less stressed, for me and the fish.
Many shippers won't guarantee, if you don't

I've had good and bad experiences with USPS but overall I'm satisfied to an extent. They are far cheaper than other carriers and with my choices extremely limited (Petco, Petsmart & Walmart) for fish. I have to rely on mail order. I have to place a limit on money spent on fish and don't see the need in buying a fish and then the shipping is twice higher than the fish! I just take my chances and try to not buy real expensive fishes and go with warranties when possible. If you contact the seller and explain your situation you might be able to get a new deal slightly cheaper. I've been able to recover some lost specimens like that. Sorry for the loss, financial and definitely otherwise.
