Yeah it's hard to determine. And you know, it's kinda similar to the Auto Zone incident in a way where an employee was fired for using a gun to stop a robbery. Schools are gun-free zones. No secret about that. What if there had been a teacher on campus that had a concealed weapons permit and took his gun to school everyday without telling anybody, going against his employer's policies and even local laws? And what if he used that gun to stop a mass murder like what happened today?

How do you think the public would react? Hero? And undoubtedly would get fired and lose his ability to teach ever again. Do we take away an employer's ability to deny a person's right to carry a weapon on company grounds?

That's not true. Every school in thru out the five boroughs of new York have armed police officers. Even though their cops they still carry a gun.

Personally speaking if I was a teacher in that situation I wouldn't think twice about it I would do what needed to protect the children. Forget keeping my job. I rather be broke and homeless then witness what happened.

I'm not referring to gun-free as in police officers, I'm talking about gun-free to the general public. And even then, not all schools have police officers on site. With budget cuts these days, they can barely manage to patrol the cities.

Not sure how it works in all states but here in CA even if you have a concealed weapons permit you can't carry on school grounds. But should it be that way? It's obvious these laws do nothing to protect kids.

I'm not sure about cause they surely do there just every time I visit my mother in the Bronx cops are all over the place. In her neighborhood there's a cop on every block and constantly patrolling the projects and neighboring blocks. Even in the schools there were atleast 3 officers on duty at all times .

As for gun laws go. Ill stick to my saying guns don't kill people, people kill people. Without the person controlling it the gun is nothing more then a hunk of metal and gun powder.

gun control is a highly political subject..lets not get this thread closed.

As for having some teachers carrying guns, I don't think it would work. It is too unpredictable where a gunman may strike. What if they attack a room where the armed teacher is not present. Plus these gunman typically have automatic weapons, no way is someone with a handgun able to stop someone with that fire power in a gun fight. Pretty much all schools already got security guards. What they need to do is have fewer entrances/exits, and have school guards stand guard and be more strict about who enters these schools. People should be checked thoroughly before entering.

The subject of allowing guns on campus was brought up several times before, including a discussion on how it would not be allowed. All that did was show that one state is trying to do it. Only way that becomes political is when people make it political and others whine about it.

fewer entrances and exits is a big fire hazard
