short body oscar

How do they "make" short bodied fish. You see that often with the german blue rams, gourami and others. How do they select for that with such consistency?
Just curious. Not my cup of tea either but to each his own.

He is very cute! Don't listen to the others - I can only imagine if their baby was born deformed, see what they say then!
I hear that they can have health issues based on squashing of the internal organs - but I haven't seen any "long term" results, or info - do keep us posted!
That said - the "parrots" which are very similar in shape, can live for many years.
I have two jellybean convicts that have been dyed - let the hate come :)

Oh god. You did not just compare a disabled child to a fish that has been PURPOSELY bred to look like a weather balloon.

Congratulations... thanks to your support, some more perfectly healthy fish will be tortured and dyed in hope that someone like YOU will buy them. But who cares, I'm probably just a hater, right? lol

Selectively breed for the deformity. I've heard with the GBR they expose the fertilized eggs/wigglers to zinc or other heavy metals to induce the spinal deformities but I have no evidence to back that up.

Cacichlids - actually yes. You're just a hater.
If everybody was a hater, there would be NO deformed fish anywhere. Or they would be kept in the closet. But, let us stay with the purpose of THIS thread, which certainly is about a deformed fish. If you don't like it, you can look at the normal oscar threads :)

Yes, they should be - I'm with you on that - my point is, there ARE people who find them cute. It's all about supplying the demand in general. In addition, it's like giving the deformed fish a "chance at life" like this beautiful Oscar. It wasn't his fault :)

If that's true, that's pretty sad :(
