Short Body wild caught marulioides

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thats a beautiful channa. Looks kinda like a gold fish. Superb.
Is it really a WC?

Apart from that, I think its got nothing to do with animal keeping if placed in plastic (reptiles),
or on bare bottom, like this precious snakehead.
All got to do with easy maintenance. Nothing less, nothing more.
And it should be more.

Of course its a selfish hobby.
Doesnt mean you got to strech that all the way!

Blackshark11k:
"..its a fish not a self aware human being."

And thats exactly why we cannot decide indefinitely. They are not human.
Give the little stunner a bit of substrate! It wont intoxicate the water. I promise you.
All you got to do is give a tat more TLC.

Small price for such a stunner.

Not true, forums are to discuss topics on hand not everything else. Where are the damn mods? Seriously, this forum has gone down hill. Everyone thinks they're style of keeping is better so... "let me flex my OPINION on someone else because there is no way I can be wrong.". Again, get over yourselves and comment on how healthy this fish looks even in a tank that you hate.

QFT, thanks man...

As explained earlier, most moster fish keeping in malaysia prefers to keep in bare tank, its easier for maintenance and to keep the water in optimum conditions.

Just do a search for "toman, toman bunga, arowana, kaloi, malaysia" in youtube and you'll see how we prefers to keep our fishes over here.

Toman - channa micropeltes
Toman bunga - marulioides
Kalaoi - giant gourami

See how beautiful we keep our arowanas, its not a cheap fish and its 99% in bare tank, we dont wanna risk toxic and disease should we keep in substrate tank, its been proven too many times chances of fish RIP with substrate is always higher.

Telling people to "get over yourselves"?
It is true these forums are for DISCUSSION.
I am discussing the video clip posted at the start.
I just like you and everyone else are entitled to an opinion, so I don't know where the "get over yourselves" keeps coming from.
I hold no ill feeling to the OP, or anyone else, just stating my opinion on the "TOPIC ON HAND", if you don't want any negative opinions in a thread, don't post it!

I don't know why you are calling for the mods, there is no abuse of rules going on here.

Ok Skareb, Im with you on the outrageous prices and beauty of the many fish.

In my opinion its part of the hobby to keep waterconditions excelent despite environmental factors which secure
high demands of the fish.

I stand the fish as part of the whole, and declare it is priceless.
Without judging, I declare you consider the fish as excessive. That's your given right, but far from normal natural balance.
You can take the fish out of nature, but you cant take nature out of the fish.

Dont want to offend you, just try to persuade.

Hi skareb,
Maybe I'm in a middle age. I can not open VDO file, do you have any pic?

Hi Some MFK member,
My emperor glass thank not bare but without plant. Can I share my tank next time here?
We may think different, we can share and discuss, not blame...

I fully agree in terms of viewing, fully planted tank win hands down

For maintaining health, Bare tank win.

Been there, tried it, and this is my experience that I can share with you. And no offence taken, we're all here to share, unlike someone who is here to preach.

Actually prefer the planteds because they do improve water quality while also being aesthetically pleasing. Problem is, most monster fish keepers tend to keep substrate diggers, plant eaters, or Decor Rearrangers in most of their fish mixes.

Marulioides looks great, though I am surprised that its WC. Looks like a CB breeding experiment/result.

Yep, I agree they can make a mess of nice planting.
Mine did when they got large.
Especially when they started courting and mock spawning.
At that point I mixed big old tough plants like Giant Anubius with cheap silk plants tied to large heavy bits of wood.
It meant the plantation wasn't as dense but they had wood and plants to break line of sight etc when they were courting. (these fish kick the hell out of each other when mating)
They still had masses of duck weed for top cover that helped shade the tank a little also.

Eventually, their mating ritual got so much I removed plants for a few weeks before passing them on to a friend for him to attempt breeding. (still hasn't done so yet)

Here are my old pair:

At the point where they were starting to breed:

Last pic before they were breeding too violently I passed on:

The driftwood and fake plants helped immensly at this time when the male wasn't in breeding mood it helped break line of sight from randy super aggressive female.

No problem, you've your principle in keeping fishes and we msian have ours.

I kinda find it strange that when we've plants and substrate it brings a lot of trouble, and you guys doesnt hv these problem. Could it be the climate?

We usually keep with over flow sump filters.
