Assuming he only has one tank, where else would the fish go? A baby fish sitter? lol There is fish-less and fishy cycling. Burtess is 100% correct....

Yeah, she only has one tank. A 29 with a bichir, two comets, and an assortment of tropical fish. Go figure...

The method suggested would be

1. Take some gravel out if you have to much.

2. After water and debris settles, gravel vac about 30% of the water out.

3. Refill tank as required.

4. 1 or 2 days later gravel vac another 30% of the water out, refill as required.

5. 1 or 2 days later gravel vac another 30% of the water out, refill as required.

do you see where we are heading with this method? Your not changing ALL of the water at one time, you spread it out so you don't kill the fish. DO NOT carry the tank into the driveway and dump the gravel and water out..just take 10 mins a day every couple of days and do almost a 1/3 water change. Its only a 10 gallon tank so it shouldnt take to darn long. And after you get it straight, maintain the thing. It a very small / closed loop system and takes no time to get overloaded with waste.

I agree with Mattyou, but what type of filtration do you have on your tank and how often do you change your water? Maybe you either arent doing enough water changes or arent providing the proper filtraiton. Even if you have too much gravel, regular and thorough cleaning will do the trick.
