Two wrongs do not make a right. If he was able to get outside to the van then the proper procedure would have been to get the license plate number then call the police. Stealing a car is stealing a car.
:screwy: that is why the legal system in this country is a friggin joke. thats pathetic. its a sad day when a criminal has more rights and is protected more than an honest civilian

Shouldn't be a crime at all.. Personally i would have just turned the van off and locked the doors.. Then just stand outside with my shotgun and wait for them...LOL

Ah, but I trust you wouldn't shoot them? Else you would be charged!

we had a thing a couple of years ago where this farmer got done for murder.
travellers used to break in to his farm all the time, so one day he put a sign up sayin tresspassers will be shot.
they came back again, in to his house, took family heirlooms etc and the farmer walked in on them. they beat him up then ran.
he managed to get his gun and out the front door and shot one of them before they got off his property.
but he got done for it...they deserved it!!! the bloke he shot didnt die (hence the deserving bit) but it happens to alot of farmers.

thats sickening. defend your life and your property and you go to jail. the logic behind that reasoning is retarded

How is that protecting the criminal more? You're providing the police with every bit of information they need. The criminals are going to jail and if they do get away before the police show up then everything they get away with should be covered by homeowners insurance until it can be recovered. The criminals don't have more rights than honest civilians but honest civilians don't have more either. We're all citizens, like it or not.

Nah, not unless my family was in danger.. I'd have them face down and waiting for the cops to take them away though..

^^^ Total 100% BS!! That attitude is a big part of the problem.
I say when a person is in the act of committing a crime they forfeit their rights.
If this happened to me I wouldn't let them take my stuff into their van and then hope the cops can find the van and then hope my stuff is still inside and not destroyed.
A person has the right to defend their family/property/posessions.
