nice catches sbuse. what exactly is a kam loop?

thanx...it is a dnr stocked steelhead...they originated from the kam river system(spell) that i think is in canada...i could be wrong on the area, but it is that river system...the dnr clips the adipost fin off to tell the difference...we can only keep the loopers...all unclipped natural steelhead must be let go...

actualy they are Loopers(kam loops) not steelheads...every looper i get is around 24"...we see lots at that size and alot bigger aswell...
lol they are steelhead, loopers(kam loops) is just where they are from/originate. In other words thats where the brood stock came from. The walleye in my area are Muskegon Strain. Meaning they parents are from Muskegon. Are they walleye still Yes.

Noraml rainbows (bows) do not look, act, or behave like a steelhead even tho they are vary similar. Stream rainbows are called bows. Rainbows that run to sea/great lakes then back to inland waters are called steelhead. But this is all just common names and they share the same scientific name.

Heres a pic of a Seafloren Brown trout I caught today. Seafloren is the strain of brown trout imported from Europe It is know as sea trout over there. This strain lives in a big body of water like ocean or great lakes and spawns in rivers and streams

i know thats just were they came from...around here they are treated different...most looper are looked at as food and not much more...if you get a steelhead it is put on a higher plane then if you get a looper...thats why i said they were not steelhead...eg. i have talked to guys that wont fish at a river if you only got loopers there, they look at those rivers as being tainted...me i prefure loopers as here in MN i can't eat steelies...i am a meat hunter/fisher for the most part...

I gotcha now ;), I am not a meat hunter myself, I am a thrill seaker. That male that I caught and posted a pic. of in this thread was a native born, that I caught and released. Here in MI we can keep any stocked or native born.

that is a nice fish...we are thrill seakers in the world of sturgeons and most of the river fish...but we have to drive 3-4hrs for steelheading so so meat is needed to make the trip worth wile to my wife...she doesn't fish or eat fish, but if i go that far i have to come back with something and i love the taste of them so it works out...

Don't call yourself a "meat hunter", it sounds too negative. There is no problem keeping fish as long as you're within the regulations. I see you are on Lake Superior.... if I fished that lake I would keep some for the table as well. I am all Lake Ontario, and well...... best thing to do here is catch and release lol....
