Sick Flowerhorn

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry, nearly midnight here after a long day work. I actually did not see that link/advice. It sounds way too much to me. You're pickling the fish.
I didn’t put much in because that’s when it got iffy about using it. It’s ok I was shocked about the 3 pounds of salt to 100g of water. Like I said I have no clue about salt.

OK, so what have you dosed exactly? What's in the water right now?
How about water changes, how much, how often so far?

Ok so right now there is 7.5 packets of Erythromiacin and a little salt but I can’t tell you exactly how much because I was trying to dissolve it in a bucket instead of dumping it in. Water changes are as follows Sunday 70% and every days after it’s been around 50% would be more not less than 50% .

Thank you very much dawn for helping me. Hope I didn’t cause anyone to be mad at me or you more importantly.
Your very welcome!!! No one is mad!!! We all know how over overwhelming & stressful it can be when you have a sick fish. Hopefully Fred will feel better soon!!!

OK, so we can't determine the salt amount....

If you can't control the salt amount it is best not doing salt treatment. On another topic, a TDS meter is great for monitoring salt dosage between water changes....and monitor water quality.

When you start an antibiotic, you've got to finish it....so although I don't think erythromycin is going to help, you don't want to create mutant bacteria in your water.... Monitor your water quality as you can nuke it with meds, no hope for the fish in bad water quality.

But you mentioned earlier you have seachem kanaplex? Which is also called kanamycin sulfate. It is a better antibiotic. I would not dose straight away. I'd finish off the previous antibiotic, gradually reduce the salt( you may have dosed enough) and then start some serious water changes. 70% every day for at least 3-4 days if not a week. Then see how it goes, and as a last resort dose again seachem kanaplex.

Water changes are a key to keeping the fish alive while sick, helping the immune system. Meds knock out some of the bacteria/parasites to help the immune system deal with a lesser load. You can't sterilize either tank or a fish.

I'll be intentionally repetitive, but it is the immune system of the fish that cures the fish. You're only aiding the fish recover.

Ok I will give that a try. I have two more doses of Erythromiacin. Not sure if he will make it much longer but if he does I will give that a try. Thank you very much for your help.

Unfortunately my friend's Flowerhorn passed away. Thanks again to everyone who tried to help her. I appreciate you taking the time to do that.
