Alan,

http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...Now-it-s-my-turn-my-female-marble-is-hurting-!!

Straight up open sore, it was caused by rotting dead pup in the filter. When I pulled the dead female out, the underside looks similar to the ray in the first page....ammonia was through the roof, it was a small 75 gallon tank (qt) with overfiltered filtration that apparently wasn't enough to handle a rotting dead pup. I am still 100% certain this one was ammonia poisoning.

I too have had ray with bloody eye, clear itself in less than a week..

Its fin rot and has nothing to do with ammonia.

It takes weeks to get to that stage in such a large fish. Its caused by dirty water = the filtration can handle the bioload.

The red eyes are caused by blood poisoning and is a direct result of the fin rot.

Like I said, it can take weeks to get to this state. Has nothing to do with shipping.

I got a ray in before with both eyes red like that.(it died after a few days. Never moved just sat there until it died.) I thought and was told it was from shipping. Not to question your knowledge just saying what I was told. Makes me even more mad that they shipped it to me like that. Those rays were only in transit for 8hrs. I got the rays from tfd, one more reason they are not in business anymore.

His mother should've swallowed him.

Told this line to the Nancy in my Sig. Quoted the cries from him cause it was too funny and I laugh every time I see it. I got some infractions from that thread, this line was one of them. Just a heads up as to what pm is likely coming your way;) seems I can't go to long without getting some sort of infraction. I just got one for a movie quoting series of post I had with a few folks. Still figuring that one out.lol

Fin rot is caused by an overload of the stingrays immunesystem. Fx when something is rotting in the tank (huge increase in bacteria).

The fin rot itself can be fungal or bacterial. It isen't directly caused by ammonia, but it ofc, dosent make anything better (more stress no the ray).

Yours look like bacterial, just like DB's ray (dont see any white fungus).

Dilated blood vessels can ofc be caused by other things than just infection. :)

I had a ray that died of ammonia posoning some years ago, and both its eyes "turned red" some hours before it died. Also one of my leos got a red eye few months ago, for some reason (didnt find any faults in waterparameters), but that went back to normal after about 3-4 days...

Don't feel too bad man NO human being is completely worthless hopefully he is just in a bad place right now and with your help he can pay it forward somewhere down the road. I know it is hard to look at it that way.

There is still no reason that ray should have suffered the way it did and I hope he feels terrible. I would leave thousands of dollars of fish at the doorstep of my lfs before I let that happen to them in my tank because of my neglect.

Your heart was in the right place and I respect that

If you used paypal with your credit card I wouldn't even bother with paypal, just dispute it with your credit card company.

That is what I do and have done when PP doesn't play nice. Even if PP says you cant get a refund the credit card company will agree with you on this.

Damn, that sucks. This guy should hang his head in shame over this.

wow... this truly sucks.

How are the three the other buyer purchased?

I really wanted the group and started to try and get them but seeing this I'm glad other things came up keeping me from sending my money.

This is why I don't have fish shipped and I just drive everywhere to get my fish. Very sorry about your ray :(
