Silly me...Listening to LFS instead of you guys

I have a 7" JD with six 2" Oscura Heterspilus and the JD never gives them a hard time. It all comes down to the individual but I've found them to be more mellow than aggressive.

For cichlids it is more about the "how" we aquarists do things, than any other factor, except water quality.
If you buy 8 (or whatever number) juvies of ? cichlids, and put them in a tank all at once, and not add any more, the chance of success is very high (at least until they pair up) even if the tank is a bit small.
But if you buy one, put it in a tank, then another a week or even a few days later, so on and so on, your chance of success lessens exponentially because of the territorial nature of cichlids with each new purchase.
The larger the tank, the more wiggle room, but in tanks of less than 6 ft, options are very limited.

Whilst I agree 600% I'm in Australia where shops get shipments not very often because there isn't a huge turn over in stock compared to overseas and local breeders are almost non existent

Due to your tight import regulations of wild fish, I would think that there would be plenty of hobby level breeders, certainly those that breed common bread & butter species such as mollies and swordtails. I've been a member of the following AU based forum for several years, perhaps you could reach out for some local breeders here? http://www.aceforums.com.au/

Yeah I know it's an aggressive fish. I looked at the green terrors but everything is ready is its more aggressive than jd. I think it comes down to each individual cichlid personality tbh.

Having owned both, I find the GT more personable, less skittish, and less aggressive. I've had too many jacks that just sit there in the corner, hiding, waiting for food. It didn't matter if I had dithers.

I have been waiting for ages for aceforums to validate my account. Unfortunately it's been a week and still have approved my account
