silver aro in 90 gal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree that a 26g is wrong, a 55g is still no good, and a 90g might not be the best, but i dont think fish really get unhappy. if i actually got an aro for a 90g(which i wont because already have fish in it and would only do it if it was alone or with small catfish on the bottom), then in 2-3 years if i decided it was too cramped id give it away, but it seems like for a while it will be fine. i recently gave away my spotted gar because my tank is only 18" wide and he was 14", and though he seemed perfectly happy(hed come up to my fingers and rub his nose on them) i knew after a bit he couldnt turn because hes not flexible like the aro and my oscar would always take food out of his mouth and it wasnt fair to him. from watching them in the store, aros seem like they can turn in real tight spaces. the gar seemed content just floating against the current. the only fish ive ever seen get sad is my red oscar, who when he gets into fights with the albino and gets bullied sometimes gets and sulks at the bottom, but he always gets over it.

Sounds about right for the 180g tanks, the 360g new would likely be around 3k just for the tank. It's been a while since I looked though. Also keep in mind the monthly cost, it will put quite the dent in your electric bill as well. I'm sure you know that though. I agree, if that is what you want and you have the money go for it.

id be fully willing to pay extra on the electric bill for a lifetime of enjoyment :P so what should i do about that arowana tank in regards to tankmates? id like to do some shovelnose catfish (Lima), and maybe a clown knife, but then i think that the arowana wouldnt be the centerpiece to the tank anymore, that there'd be more to pay attention to. thoughts? ive also heard of oscars as tankmates but some good and some bad stories of those as well.

id prolly do 2 fx5's on that 360g tank so the water parameters dont move much if at all, since i know thats what aro's like.

do you guys think a silver aro would be ok in a 125g, 6' long, 12" wide, and 24" high tank? that seems like my next realistic goal. i know aros can get to about 2 ft, but i also know they are very flexible and it seems like theyd get along ok in a 125g. wat is the footprint for a 180g that you prescribe as the minimum?

6x2x2 ft. i think wed still say thats the minimum. its only 1 ft deeper. but thats the bare minimum, you could comfortably put a jardini in a 180g tank, but wed suggest a larger tank for a full grown silver aro.

its true its only a ft deeper, but do you really think it would hurt the aro much? im living off a craigslist budget and the biggest tank i ever see on craigslist is 125g. I recently saw 125g with stand for $100 which is a crazy deal where i live. im not gonna get it now, but id expect something similar in the future. aro is such a beautiful fish that i will keep looking and waiting until i can find a good deal on a setup. a foot deeper would be a 250g and i am also planning to throw in my RTC so id have a RTC and aro in a 125g. would it be ok with regular water changes? im not as stubborn as i seem because even though it may not seem like it, you guys have talked me out of putting one in a 90g

itd work for a while while both are small, but both grow very fast, so plan on upgrading. our best advice if you cant porperly house a large fish then dont get one to start with, save up and get a bigger tank, it will save you money in the longrun, and hassle as well. but it can be done if you upgrade the tank later on.
