Silver Arowana growth rate

@ SBUSE your not too late, i appreciate your input. Thanks btw what did you feed your arowana?

shell on market shrimp, tillapia and other fish fillets, night crawlers, hikary food sticks, frogs, grass hoppers, chicken and turkey heart, liver and gizzards...a few other things made/make it into its/their diet, but i can't remember them now...temp was around 82-86f...this diet also got my TSNs from 3" to 22"+ in 5-6 months...

they can be picky some time it would only eat shelled shrimp...i would drop in a whole shell on shrimp and it would watch it fall...i net that same shrimp out and re drop it in...the aro would watch me net it and watch it fall to the bottom...i would net the same shrimp out again and the aro would watch me shell it and get exited...then when i droped it in the tank again it didn't go down 2" and it was in the aros mouth...and the next day it would eat three shell on shrimps with out second geussing...now that is picky...or it was just useing its power over me...

i know am alittle late on this one, but all mine grow way faster then 1.5" a month...the slowest one i have had grow was 2" a month...the fastest was 3" to 24"+ in 10 months...

You should get it switched to pellets and/or shrimp (pellets are healthier and cheaper) ASAP. If you let it choose its own food now, then it will eventually only eat that food and will be very difficult to switch to a different food (and you will need to switch eventually, crickets and white clouds won't sustain an adult aro, heck they wouldn't even sustain a 10"er for too long). To get it to accept other foods, you are probably going to need to starve it for a while (1-2 weeks, possibly more).

no...you have a 1.75 inch a month growth...average for most and what i would concider not growing at all in my tanks ex. my super small silver that was the width of a under gravel filter tube on jan. 15 is now 12"+...it is growing so slow...

Anyway, about your response to tigrey's post, I think your math is a little off, he has a 2.125" per month rate, I'm not sure how you got 1.75... but yeah, 2ipm is still about average.

i used 3" for a start...and it was mental math...so it was your fault i was wrong...

I got my current silver in June 2015 @ 4". It is now 19-20" growth has slowed but it's starting to bulk up. I feed about 4 times a week now. It can eat about 5 large market shrimp at a sitting with no difficulty. It also likes super worms and jumbo carny sticks but they are expensive and it eats too many.
